Coronavirus positive cases in Maharashtra are increasing much faster than before. Today 47 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Maharashtra, news agencies reported. Out of 47, 28 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Mumbai, 15 in Thane district, 2 in Pune and 1 each in Amravati and Pimpri Chinchwad. With today’s 47 cases reported, the total number of cases in the state has escalated to 537.
“47 fresh Coronovirus positive cases reported in Maharashtra today- 28 in Mumbai, 15 in Thane district, 1 in Amravati, 2 in Pune and 1 in Pimpri Chinchwad; The total number of positive cases in the state rises to 537: Maharashtra Health Department,” ANI tweeted.
Mumbai had the highest number of Covid-19 cases at 179 confirmed infections. The deadly coronavirus has killed 19 people in the state till now. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra was the worst-hit state by the COVID-19 infection.
As the number of cases surge in the state, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the state government may not lift the current lockdown on April 14, when the countrywide restrictions end, if the people of the state do not observe discipline, PTI reported.
Tope also urged people to observe strict discipline so that the number of cases goes down, which will then pave the way for lifting of the lockdown.

Meanwhile the total number of coronavirus positive cases in India rose to 2,902, according to the ministry of health and family welfare. The total number of deaths reported due to the disease rose to 68.

India recorded over 600 fresh COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours — highest in a single day since coronavirus outbreak in the country. Fresh cases were reported from Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country stood at 2,902.
Delhi witnessed a record surge in the COVID-19 count after 167 tested positive for coronavirus in the capital. There were 386 coronavirus patients in Delhi. Out of the total cases, at least 259 were linked to a religious conference in Delhi that held last month.
Delhi’s Nizammudin area emerged as the hotspot of COVID-19 in India. Around 650 people who had attended conference at Delhi’s Nizamuddin, tested positive in 14 states in the last two days, the health ministry said.
“If we look at cases related to Tableeghi Jamaat, in the last two days around 647 confirmed cases related to it have been found in 14 states — Andaman and Nicobar, Assam, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh,” said Lav Aggarwal, joint secretary, health ministry
Tamil Nadu reported 102 coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the total count in the state over 400. 100 of them were linked to the Delhi’s Nizammudin conference. This was the third consecutive day of huge rise in the number of cases being reported from the state. Tamil Nadu added at least 75 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Over 100 people in Tamil Nadu tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.
Maharashtra remained the worst affected state by coronavirus outbreak in the country. Mumbai has so far confirmed over 200 COVID-19 cases. At least 88 people tested positive for coronavirus in the state on Friday. Maharashtra reported three more deaths, bringing the death toll in the state to 19. Maharashtra has so far recorded highest number fatalities due to COVID-19 in India.
Andhra Pradesh confirmed 29 new cases in last 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus patients in Andhra Pradesh was at 161, according the ministry of health and family welfare. On Friday, Andhra Pradesh reported its first death due to the novel coronarvirus in the state. A 55-year-old man, who had a medical history of diabetes and heart disease, had died, said Arja Srikanth, state nodal officer.
With 46 new coronavirus positive cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Rajasthan rose to 179. Over 50 people tested positive for coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh, taking the total count in the state to 174.
The death toll in the country has climbed to 68, after 12 fresh casualties were reported from various parts of the country.
India is under 21-day nationwide lockdown to mitigate the spread of the virus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all Indians to switch off all other lights and stand at doors or balconies to light candles or diyas, torches or mobile flashlights for 9 minutes this Sunday.
